Mamas famous apple cake with outrageous toffee sauce with bourbon

Ingredients
1 stick of butter, softened, plus additional soft butter for pan
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups flour
1 tbs. cinnamon (or more, depending on taste)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
6-8 apples (depending on size), peeled and sliced. Note: Use a variety like Empire, Macoun, Granny Smith for the best taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350° - place rack in middle of oven
Butter a 9” x 3” cake pan, set aside
Cream butter and sugar together in the bowl of a stand mixer or with a hand mixer
Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy
Sift together flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda and beat in thoroughly
Stir apples into batter using a wooden spoon, which will be thick and hard to stir at first
Turn into buttered pan and spread smooth
Bake for one hour, or until toothpick comes out clean
Cool for 10 minutes, then use a plate to invert cake from pan and place on a cake stand or pretty serving plate
