Tarte Tatin with outrageous toffee sauce®

Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry

  • 4 small Granny Smith, or other tart, apples

  • 4 teaspoons sugar

  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, diced

  • 3/4 cup Outrageous Toffee Sauce with Bourbon®

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375º and position the racks in the center of the oven

  • Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper

  • Place the defrosted, unfolded puff pastry sheets onto the pans and cut each sheet into 4 squares, being careful not to cut the parchment. Refrigerate the sheets while you prepare the apples

  • Peel the apples.  Cut in half through the stem. Remove the stems and cores with a small, sharp knife

  • Slice the apples crosswise into 1/4" thick slices.  Place overlapping slices of apples diagonally across the pastry and place one slice on either side of the arranged slices.  Sprinkle the apples evenly with the sugar and dot them with butter

  • Bake for 35 minutes, or until the pastry is browned and the edges of the apples start to brown.  The apple juices may burn on the pan but the tarts will be fine

  • When the tarts are done, microwave 3/4 cup of Outrageous Toffee Sauce with Bourbon® for 30 seconds, stir well and drizzle over each tart.  Loosen the tarts with a metal spatula, so they don't stick to the parchment.  Serve warm, or at room temperature
